Context
The setting
Uganda Media Centre is the official government media body under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. Its existing publishing stack made it hard to coordinate press briefings, distribute multilingual statements quickly, and serve audiences across desktop, mobile, and field newsrooms.
Challenge
What we had to solve
- Fragmented publishing workflow across departments and ministries
- Slow turnaround on press releases during national events
- Limited mobile and low-bandwidth access for upcountry journalists
- No central asset library, archive search, or editorial audit trail
Approach
How we delivered.
Editorial-first CMS
Designed an opinionated newsroom interface modelled on real journalist workflows, drafts, approvals, embargoes, scheduled releases.
AI assistance layer
Embedded AI for summarisation, headline variants, translation drafts, and metadata generation, always with a human-in-the-loop.
Mobile-first delivery
Built a responsive, offline-tolerant front-end with illustrated Ugandan SVG assets reflecting national identity.
Admin & governance
Role-based access, audit logs, and a structured taxonomy aligned with government communications policy.
Highlights
What was shipped
- Custom illustrated SVG asset library reflecting Ugandan civic identity
- AI-assisted drafting with human approval gates
- Multi-role admin dashboard (editors, ministry liaisons, super-admins)
- Responsive mobile UI optimised for field reporting
- Full archive search and structured content taxonomy

Technology
Inside the engagement
Mobile newsroom layer
A phase of the same engagement, built so journalists can draft, review and publish from the field on unpredictable networks. Field submissions flow into the same editorial queue as desktop drafts, so nothing forks off into a parallel system.
- Mobile-first publishing UI for one-handed filing
- Local drafts that persist offline and sync on reconnection
- Shared editorial queue and approval chain with the desktop CMS
- Low-bandwidth image and asset handling with progressive upload
“A platform that finally matches the tempo of national communications.”
